In season 1, episode 9 of the Awakened Therapist Podcast, Harmony and her guest discuss the importance of somatic intelligence in the therapeutic process. When working with any client, learning their particular interoceptive capacity informs our ability to meet them where they are. Interception (often referred to as the “eighth sense”) is our internal sensory system. Clients who have blunted interception experience a dulled awareness of their internal bodily sensations. On the other end of the spectrum, clients who have heightened interoceptive senses experience hypersensitivity to their internal bodily signals.
Each episode has two parts: 1) Conversation and 2) Consultation. The conversation portion is streaming on all major platforms, and the consultation portion is available to Patreon members. To listen to the consultation portion, join us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/TheAwakenedTherapist
In the exclusive consultation portion of this episode, Harmony and her guest consult about a case where a client is disconnected from their emotions and the sensations in their body. While the therapist and the client have a good understanding of the client’s persistent patterns, the therapist has felt stuck about how to deepen into the therapeutic process given the client’s low level of awareness. You’ll notice that the guest therapist remains anonymous. This is to safeguard client anonymity for the consultation portion.
